Your Prime Day Points Cheat Sheet
Prime Day kicks off today (June 23) and runs through June 26. Before you start adding things to cart, check these offers - there’s free money sitting in a few of them.
1. Chase Freedom/Freedom Flex: 5% on Amazon - IF You Activated
This is the one with a real deadline you can’t undo. Chase’s Q2 2026 bonus category (April 1–June 30) included Amazon and Whole Foods at 5% cash back, up to $1,500 in combined spend. But activation closed June 14.
If you activated already: great, use this card for Prime Day (or buy gift cards - yes, it works on gift cards). You’re earning 5x on every eligible Amazon purchase through June 30.
If you didn’t activate: there’s no late activation. This is your sign to activate this offer for the next quarter (July to September). You can activate it here.

2. Amex Membership Rewards: Apply a few Points for Real Savings
This is the sleeper hit of Prime Day every year, and most people don’t know it exists. Amex and Amazon run a targeted promo where redeeming a tiny amount of Membership Rewards points at checkout unlocks a flat discount - anywhere from 15% to 50% off, depending on what you’re targeted for.
How it works:
Link your Membership Rewards–earning Amex card to your Amazon account.
Check if you’re targeted - this is account-specific, not universal. [check and activate offer here]
At checkout, choose Amex as payment and apply the minimum points required (often just $5–10 worth) - don’t redeem more than that because you are getting less than 1 CPP value on these points. We only want it for the discount.
Discount shows up automatically if you qualify.
This only works on specific items, so if you don’t see it applied to your order, you can go back to the T&Cs and check if your products met the terms or not.
I got targeted for 40% even without a Prime Membership, so you if you are not a Prime member, still check!
3. Citi ThankYou Points: Up to $25 in Amazon Gift Cards
If Amex isn’t your thing, check your Citi ThankYou account - there’s a live (targeted) offer letting you redeem points for up to $25 in Amazon gift cards. Smaller than the Amex play, but it’s free if you’ve got the points sitting idle anyway.
Check and activate Citi offer here. Remember to enroll your Citi card first.
4. Discover: Worth a 30-Second Check
The specific Discover offer I found (40% off using 1 point) had already expired before Prime Day started. That doesn’t mean nothing’s live; these targeted promos rotate constantly. Worth a quick look at your Discover account. You can check and enroll here.
And if you have none of these cards, just use the card that gets you the highest multiplier on miscellaneous purchases - like Chase Freedom Unlimited (1.5x), Capital One VentureX (2x), or the Amazon Prime Visa card of course (easy one).
